Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has criticised both management and players over the team’s campaign, saying the Basit Ali Pakistan T20 World Cup concerns go beyond one individual.
Speaking on a television programme, he argued that responsibility does not rest solely with head coach Mike Hesson. Instead, he said players must also accept accountability for inconsistent performances.
Basit questioned the team combination used against the Sri Lanka national cricket team. He claimed management acted only after significant damage had already occurred.
He maintained that leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed should have played earlier in the tournament. According to him, fielding Abrar against the England national cricket team could have influenced the outcome.
Moreover, Basit clarified that he does not personally oppose Babar Azam. However, he questioned whether Babar fits at number four in the current setup. He stressed that team balance must guide batting positions.
Basit also pointed to bowling struggles, particularly against Sri Lanka. He emphasised that taking wickets remains essential in the T20 format.

The debate reflects growing scrutiny of Pakistan’s strategy, role clarity and consistency in the shortest format.
