The highly anticipated web series Barzakh, featuring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, will debut on Zee Zindagi’s YouTube channel and ZEE5 on July 19. Directed and written by Asim Abbasi, known for Churails and Cake, Pakistan’s 2018 Oscar entry was the latter.
Alongside the launch date, Zee Zindagi released six artistic posters. The series, which premiered at the 2023 Series Mania Festival in France, marks Saeed and Khan’s reunion since their last project, Zindagi Gulzar Hai, ended in 2013.
Barzakh centers on a 76-year-old man at a remote valley resort who reunites his family for a unique event—his wedding to the ghost of his first love. Set in the scenic Hunza Valley, the plot intertwines themes of love, death, and familial bonds.
The six-episode series features a robust cast, including Salman Shahid, M Fawad Khan, Eman Suleman, and others. It tackles mental health, postpartum depression, and gender inclusivity, challenging societal norms.
Director Abbasi describes Barzakh as a deep dive into a world of fear, hope, and magic, aiming to leave a lasting impact on viewers. Producer Shailja Kejriwal emphasizes the series as a surreal journey into life’s complexities, where the supernatural meets the everyday.
Co-producer Waqas Hassan sees the series as a milestone that showcases the global calibre of Pakistani filmmakers and actors. He expresses pride in Team Barzakh’s dedication and anticipates the series will resonate globally.
