Pakistani director Asim Abbasi’s Indian web series “Barzakh,” starring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, is being removed from YouTube in Pakistan due to intense public criticism and backlash.
The series, which premiered on July 19 on India’s streaming platform ZEE5 and YouTube, faced controversy, particularly after the release of its third episode, due to its portrayal of male homosexuality, sparking significant viewer backlash.
The filmmakers have confirmed that “Barzakh” will be discontinued in Pakistan and expressed their gratitude to global viewers for their support. In a statement released by ZEE Life and the “Barzakh” production team, they announced the voluntary removal of the series from YouTube effective August 9, citing respect for public sentiment in Pakistan as their decision.
All six episodes of “Barzakh,” which were available on ZEE Life’s YouTube channel, will be removed from YouTube in Pakistan starting August 9. This move reflects the production team’s commitment to respecting the views of its audience amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the series’ content.
