Barbara Bush, daughter of former Republican President George W. Bush, has publicly endorsed Democrat Kamala Harris in the tightly contested White House race, as reported by People magazine. Over the weekend, Bush, 42, actively campaigned for the Vice President in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state in the upcoming November election against Republican Donald Trump.
“It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend,” she shared with People. “I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
Although Bush is known as an independent, her family is deeply rooted in the Republican tradition—her late grandfather, George H.W. Bush, also served as President.
A notable number of prominent Republicans, disillusioned by Trump’s divisive stances on issues like abortion, migration, and democracy, have thrown their support behind Harris.
Former President George W. Bush, who led the country from 2001 to 2009, has not endorsed any candidate for the 2024 election and has generally stayed out of the political spotlight since his presidency.
However, Harris has garnered endorsements from significant figures within Bush’s administration, including Vice President Dick Cheney and his daughter, former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney, who has actively campaigned for Harris.
Barbara Bush, whose fraternal twin Jenna is an NBC correspondent, has been vocal about her pro-choice stance and has previously supported Planned Parenthood, a leading reproductive health organization.
