On Tuesday, Bangladesh achieved a historic victory in the second Test against Pakistan, completing a two-match series sweep with a six-wicket win.
Resuming play on the final day at 42-0 following an early conclusion due to rain on Monday, Bangladesh successfully pursued Pakistan’s target of 185 runs from the second innings.
Openers Zakir Hasan, scoring 40, and Shadman Islam, with 24, set a solid foundation that the Pakistani team, led by Shan Masood, could not destabilize. Veteran players Mushfiqur Rahim, with an unbeaten 22, and Shakib Al Hasan, also not out at 21, rounded off the chase within 56 overs.
This loss marks Pakistan’s fifth consecutive defeat in the ongoing World Test Championship, following three losses to Australia and now two to Bangladesh. During the chase, Hasan and Islam were dismissed by Mir Hamza and Khurram Shahzad, respectively. Nevertheless, significant partnerships from skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored 38, and Mominul Haque, with 34, propelled the visitors towards victory.
On the bowling front, the visitors had dismissed Pakistan for 172 earlier, with Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana causing major disruptions, taking five and four wickets, respectively. Starting the day at 9/2, Pakistan’s batsmen, including Saim Ayub and Shan Masood, initially added 38 runs. Taskin Ahmed removed Ayub, who scored 20 from 35 balls. Mohammad Rizwan contributed 43 runs, while Abrar Ahmed made a brief appearance.
Hasan Mahmud completed Pakistan’s innings by dismissing Mir Hamza for four. Salman Ali Agha’s effort, remaining unbeaten at 47, was in vain as Mahmud recorded his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
This loss follows a significant defeat in the first Test, where Bangladesh secured a straightforward 10-wicket victory, compounding the challenges for the Green Shirts.
