Bangladesh clinched a historic victory on Pakistani soil in a disheartening turn for Pakistan cricket. During the final day of the Rawalpindi Test, Pakistan resumed play with only one wicket down but quickly faltered.
Captain Shan Masood added just five runs before losing his wicket. Key players Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique scored 22 and 37 runs, respectively. At the same time, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Ali were dismissed without contributing any runs.
Mohammad Rizwan, however, provided a glimmer of resistance with a gritty 51, which included six boundaries. Despite his efforts, Pakistan only secured a 29-run lead over Bangladesh. In a powerful bowling display, Mehdi Hasan Miraz claimed four wickets for Bangladesh, supported by Shakib Al Hasan with three. Shoriful Islam, Naeem Hasan, and Hasan Mahmud each took one.
Needing just 30 runs to win, Bangladesh’s openers, Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam, effortlessly chased down the target without any losses, sealing a 10-wicket victory. This marked the first time Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets on Pakistani ground.
On the fourth day of the Pindi Test, Bangladesh resumed their first innings with 316 runs and five wickets down in response to Pakistan’s 448. They extended their lead to 565 runs, a 117-run advantage before Pakistan ended the day at 23 for one in their second innings. This victory highlights Bangladesh’s growing prowess in Test cricket and underscores a significant moment in Pakistan’s cricketing narrative.
