The government’s export ban on onions and bananas has not lowered consumer prices. Onion prices remain at Rs280-300 per kg, and bananas are priced at Rs150 for small sizes and Rs250-300 per dozen for large sizes.

Two weeks ago, onions were Rs150 per kg, and bananas cost Rs80 for small sizes and Rs120-150 for large sizes per dozen. Retailers indicate that wholesale prices for these items have not decreased since the March 9 ban.

High demand, especially before Ramazan, has kept prices elevated. Wholesalers and exporters anticipate declining prices within the next few days as efforts to fulfil old orders intensify.
