A strong westerly wave has lashed several parts of Balochistan, bringing widespread rainfall and sharply intensifying cold conditions across the province.
Rainfall was recorded in Quetta, Chaman, Kalat, Panjgur, Gwadar, and Kharan, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures. Tehsil Baseema and the surrounding areas of Washuk district experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, while Ziarat, Harnai, Nushki, Chagai, Kech and Panjgur also received rain. Snowfall is expected across hilly regions, with Killa Abdullah, Musakhel, and Zhob likely to see snowfall as the system strengthens.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier forecast the arrival of a western disturbance over Balochistan on December 19, warning of rain and snowfall across multiple districts. According to the department, the weather system is expected to move into the upper parts of the country on December 20.

The PMD has predicted rain with snowfall over hills in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Nushki, Harnai, Zhob, Musakhel, Turbat, Gwadar, Jiwani, Lasbela, Kech, Awaran, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk, Chagai, Kharan and Kalat from the evening of December 19 through December 20.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall accompanied by moderate snowfall is expected in upper areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad. Rain is also forecast in lower districts such as Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Swabi from the night of December 20 to December 22.
The Met Office has further warned that Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to receive rain and moderate to heavy snowfall from the night of December 20 through the morning of December 23.
