Sardar Sarfaraz Chakar Domki, Balochistan’s Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, died in Karachi on Monday after a battle with lung and kidney disease. He was 55.
Domki had been receiving treatment at a private hospital for ten days. His family announced his death, noting he was in critical condition before his passing.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow, describing Domki as a seasoned politician whose absence will deeply impact Balochistan politics. “We share the grief of his family,” the Prime Minister stated, offering prayers for the bereaved family’s strength.
President Asif Ali Zardari also offered condolences, recognizing Domki’s significant contributions to the political landscape of Balochistan and his commendable service.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed profound grief, describing Domki as a wise, reliable politician and a prominent tribal leader. Bugti highlighted Domki’s role in shaping the political and tribal spheres of Balochistan and noted his active participation in the current cabinet.
The Chief Minister sympathised with Domki’s family, promising support during this difficult time.
Domki, chief of the Domki tribe, won his seat in the 2024 Balochistan Assembly elections as a PPP-P candidate with 27,677 votes. His political tenure included roles such as Provincial Minister for Labour and Management from 2018 to 2023 and briefly as Provincial Minister for Culture, Archives, and Tourism in 2018.
Domki had been a leading figure in Balochistan politics since 2013, marking his death as the end of a significant era. His funeral will be held in Bakhtiyar Abad, his hometown.
