Balochistan government has merged the Levies Force into the police system of Gwadar and Lasbela.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahiq Rind stated that this merger will bolster the law enforcement framework, leading to more effective policing and improved institutional coordination.
Rind emphasized that this initiative is a significant advancement in ensuring public safety and security in the region. He was confident that the merger would enhance peace and order across Balochistan.
In July 2024, Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced the complete depoliticization of the police and Levies force, aiming to ensure the protection of citizens and uphold the law throughout the province.

From the assembly floor, he directed the IG Police to appoint SPs, DPOs, and SHOs based on merit. Additionally, he permitted police officers from other provinces to be assigned in Balochistan as needed.
Bugti declared that no assembly member or politician would interfere in the police department’s affairs or influence postings. Addressing the Provincial Assembly, he stated that the government would maintain the tenure of police officers as long as they do not compromise the privileges of parliamentarians or the dignity of the common man. “We are depoliticizing and ensuring a free environment and will also maintain accountability within the police department,” he added.
The chief minister emphasized that the police will receive modern equipment and essential facilities, as preventing crime is a key priority for the government.

He directed the IG Police to collaborate with the Levies force to launch operations against organized crime and secure national highways to combat lawlessness in the province.
Bugti also noted that the province faces terrorism challenges, with terrorists conducting an organized RAW-driven war against the country and the province. He mentioned a systematic conspiracy against Pakistan, with one group using violence in Balochistan and another defaming state institutions through social media.
He reported that terrorists were responsible for over 4000 deaths, extorting mine owners, and tormenting residents.
Lastly, the Balochistan CM called for a special debate session and an in-camera briefing in the assembly on terrorism issues.
