The Balochistan High Court ordered police to drop all five FIRs against PTI Senator Azam Swati for his controversial tweets against high military officials and release him, provided he was not booked in any other instances.
Swati was arrested in Islamabad on November 27 by the Federal Investigation Agency following harshly worded tweets criticizing senior military officers. She was booked under Section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act 2016 (Peca), which deals with acts against a person’s dignity.
Separately, he was accused of using “derogatory language” and “provoking the public against the army” in Balochistan and Sindh.
After his detention, the Islamabad judicial magistrate flew Swati to Quetta on a special flight amid strict security last Friday. Sunday, police remanded the senator for five days.
