The Balochistan government has announced a comprehensive crackdown against individuals using illegal compressors to boost gas pressure in Quetta. This decision addresses worsening natural gas shortages during the winter season.
Deputy Commissioner Quetta Captain (retd) Mehrullah Badini presided over a meeting addressing the city’s gas supply issues. Assistant Commissioners and a Sui Southern Gas Company representative attended the session.
Officials decided to launch immediate action against those involved in selling, installing, and using gas pressure compressors throughout the provincial capital.
Winter Gas Pressure Problems
Gas pressure complaints typically increase significantly during Pakistan’s winter season. Residential consumers experience the most severe impacts, with many households unable to prepare meals on schedule or operate heating systems effectively.
The situation becomes particularly critical in regions experiencing freezing temperatures, where inadequate heating creates dangerous living conditions.

Faced with persistent low pressure, some consumers resort to illegal compressors that extract gas rapidly from distribution pipelines. These electrical devices force gas through home appliances but reduce pressure for neighboring properties.
This practice creates a cycle of worsening supply issues as more residents turn to compressors to compensate for diminishing gas pressure.
The crackdown aims to restore equitable gas distribution and prevent further deterioration of Quetta’s natural gas infrastructure during peak demand season.
