Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari, daughter of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, has urged the public to disregard rumours of rifts within their family.
Following comments by her father describing PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari as “inexperienced” in politics, there was widespread speculation about discord between the father and son. Bakhtawar’s recent social media post, featuring a happy family image including Zardari, Bilawal, and Aunt Faryal Talpur, aimed to dispel these rumours.
Bilawal’s departure to Dubai further fueled the rumours, but journalist Hamir Mir, who interviewed Zardari, suggested that the party would resolve any issues within the family.
PPP leaders and central secretary Faisal Karim Kundi also reassured that reports of internal rifts were baseless, emphasizing that disagreements on certain issues didn’t indicate deeper problems. Kundi reaffirmed Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s status as the party’s prime ministerial candidate, highlighting his achievements as foreign minister and his potential future role.
After the interview aired, Bilawal reportedly called Zardari to explain his narrative, a conversation witnessed by Mir. Zardari’s response to Bilawal was supportive, acknowledging the challenging nature of the interview questions. Bilawal explained that his comments were not a direct critique of his father but a broader commentary on Pakistani politics. The family plans to reunite in Dubai for a pre-planned gathering, indicating that despite public perceptions, the family and party leadership remain united and supportive of each other.
