The district administration of Nankana Sahib has announced a five-day closure of schools from April 12 to 16, 2025, in observance of the Baisakhi festival.
Officials stated that all educational institutions in the district will remain closed to facilitate the smooth arrival of Sikh pilgrims.
Baisakhi 2025 will be a significant celebration, with the main event scheduled for April 14. The 326th Baisakhi Mela will occur from April 10 to 19, attracting over 7,000 pilgrims from India, 3,000 from the diaspora, and 20,000 locals. This year, Pakistan issued a record-breaking 6,629 visas to Indian Sikhs, doubling the usual quota and demonstrating a commitment to interfaith harmony.
Authorities have deployed over 2,000 police officers to manage the crowds. The District Police Officer has rolled out a detailed security plan, while the Punjab Home Department ensures comprehensive safety measures. The school holidays aim to ease traffic congestion and support event logistics, especially with preparations in full swing.

Pilgrims are arriving via the Wagah Border, welcomed by Secretary Evacuee Property Trust Board Farid Iqbal. Under the Pakistan-India religious tourism agreement, 3,000 Indian pilgrims are typically allowed, but surging interest prompted a visa request to the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi.
