Islamabad’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) issued bailable arrest warrants on Thursday for Imran Khan, head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, and several of his fellow party leaders. These warrants pertain to three cases involving alleged vandalism at the judicial complex during Khan’s court appearance.
ATC Judge Abul Hasnat presided over the hearings, with representatives of the PTI Chairman in attendance. The lawyer submitted an exemption plea at the start of proceedings, citing a necessary commitment at the Lahore High Court.
However, Judge Hasnat affirmed the need for the PTI Chairman’s attendance, highlighting the significance of his presence for the ongoing court proceedings.
Following these remarks, the court issued bailable arrest warrants for Imran Khan and other key PTI figures, including Farrukh Habib, Shibli Faraz, and Hassan Niazi, relating to the judicial complex attack case.
The court summoned all the defendants, Imran Khan included, to appear personally on July 19 to respond to the allegations against them. The case hearing has been adjourned until this date.
Two cases were lodged at Ramna Police Station and one at Golra Police Station against the former premier and other PTI heavyweights. The charges claim that they led mobs that incited individuals to damage and vandalise public property within the Judicial Complex.
