Bacha Khan University will reopen on February 15, Monday after a closure of an estimated three weeks following a terrorist attack at the university which left at least 21 students dead.

The decision came during a meeting between the management and security heads at the campus on Friday.

The university was closed after a terrorist attack on January 20 which left 21 students and a faculty member dead. The campus was opened on January 25 but was closed again for indefinite period owing to inadequate security.

“The committee visited the campus prior to the meeting,” public relations officer Saeed Khalil Khan . The committee observed that walls and watch towers had been erected and CCTV cameras installed with its centralised system improved, while local police was also on alert to provide security to the varsity.

The campus will also appoint more security guards in while training will be give to guards deputed to strengthen security, Khan added.

According to the vice chancellor, the university will also avail services of a psychiatric specialist to lessen the traumatic effects for the students.

BKU Vice Chancellor Fazal Raheem Marwat, director administration Dr Shekil Khan, district police officer Charsadda, Sohail Khalid, deputy superintendent police Raza Muhammad, and others were present at the security review meeting.

Earlier on January 30, an inquiry committee found the VC and director administration responsible for lack of security at the campus and recommended their removal from service, but the decision was rejected by the university’s administration.
