Pakistani batter Babar Azam has asked his fans to stop referring to him as “King Shing,” emphasizing that he prefers to focus on his evolving role in the team.
Babar struggled on Wednesday, falling lbw to Wiaan Mulder for 23 runs while Pakistan pursued a challenging target of 353 runs against South Africa.
Speaking informally after the match, Babar addressed the nickname and urged fans to refrain from using it. “Pehli baat toh yeh hai, ‘king king’ bolna zara kam karein. Main koi king nahin hoon. Ab mere liye naye role hain,” he stated.
He elaborated on his batting strategy: “I always aim to perform at my best. As you develop an innings, you progressively gain a clearer insight into the conditions.“
Reflecting on his past performances, Babar stressed the importance of moving forward and adapting to new challenges.
“I think about the good innings I have played, and I try to move forward from tough phases. No matter how well I have performed in the past, every upcoming match is a new challenge. I must forget the past and focus on the present.”
He also emphasised strategic planning in cricket: “I always endeavour to plan positively for the future. The opposition arrives with its own strategy. Winning matches boosts confidence, and we analyse our strengths and weaknesses to enhance our performance.”
Pakistan Secures Final Spot in Tri-Nation Series
Despite Babar’s early dismissal, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha delivered outstanding centuries, leading Pakistan to a thrilling six-wicket victory over South Africa at the National Stadium Karachi.
Their record-breaking fourth-wicket partnership helped Pakistan successfully chase the 353-run target with four wickets and six balls to spare, securing a place in the final of the tri-nation series.
