Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam surpassed an unwanted record previously held by former captain Shahid Afridi during the first T20I of the home tri-series against Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
The prolific right-hander was dismissed for a three-ball duck at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, failing to trouble the scorers. This marked his ninth duck in the T20I format, moving him past Afridi’s tally of eight in the list of most ducks for Pakistan in T20 internationals.

With this dismissal, the 31-year-old former captain now stands third on the list of Pakistani batters with the most T20I ducks. He trails only Saim Ayub and Umar Akmal, who jointly lead this statistic with 10 ducks each.
The updated list of most ducks for Pakistan in T20Is now reads:
- Umar Akmal – 10 ducks in 84 matches
- Saim Ayub – 10 ducks in 52 matches
- Babar Azam – 9 ducks in 132 matches
- Shahid Afridi – 8 ducks in 98 matches
- Kamran Akmal – 7 ducks in 58 matches
- Mohammad Hafeez – 7 ducks in 119 matches
This statistical milestone comes despite Babar Azam’s generally consistent form across formats. The dismissal against Zimbabwe means the experienced batter could not carry his strong recent performance into the ongoing tri-series tournament.
