Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has surpassed India captain Rohit Sharma as the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is.
Babar achieved this milestone during the 2nd T20I against England at Edgbaston, scoring 32 runs from 26 balls. Although his performance was solid, it was not enough for Pakistan to secure a win.
Babar’s current T20I run total is 3,987, with a strike rate of 129.91, achieving over 118 matches and 111 innings. In comparison, Rohit has played 151 matches and 143 innings, scoring 3,974 runs at a strike rate of 139.97. Only Virat Kohli, with 4,037 runs, is ahead of Babar in the T20I run-scoring charts.
England batted first in the match. Despite losing opener Phil Salt early, Jos Buttler scored 84 runs off 51 balls. However, Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi (3/36) and Haris Rauf (2/34), limited England to 183/7.
Pakistan’s response was troubled, as it lost early wickets and managed a top score of 160 in 19.2 overs. Notable contributions came from Fakhar Zaman, who scored 45 off 21 balls, and Iftikhar Ahmed, who added 23 runs. England’s Reece Topley (3/41) and Jofra Archer (2/28) were key in restricting Pakistan’s batting lineup.
