Pakistan’s star batsman, Babar Azam, has set a new global benchmark by becoming the fastest player to score 11,000 runs in T20 cricket. This milestone was achieved during his innings against South Africa, marking him as the first cricketer globally to reach this target in fewer than 300 innings.
Babar accomplished this feat in 298 innings, surpassing the previous record held by the renowned West Indian batsman Chris Gayle, who took 314 innings to reach the same milestone. This achievement underscores Babar’s exceptional consistency and dominance in the T20 format.
Before Babar, only elite players such as Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, and Virat Kohli had surpassed the 11,000-run mark in T20s. Other notable cricketers like David Warner, Jos Buttler, Rohit Sharma, Aaron Finch, and James Vince have achieved this milestone. Yet, Babar has set the record in the fewest innings, demonstrating his superior skill and prowess.
Additionally, Babar has become the fifth Pakistani to amass over 14,000 runs in international cricket, joining an exclusive group of prolific scorers.
This is not Babar’s first time setting records for rapid scoring; he previously held the records for the fastest 7,000, 9,000, and 10,000 T20 runs, highlighting his sustained excellence in the sport.
In a notable achievement during the same innings, Babar also completed 26,000 runs in professional cricket, further cementing his legacy as one of the game’s modern greats.
