Mahnoor Azhar, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) leader Azhar Mashwani, was controversially offloaded from Bacha Khan International Airport in Peshawar, leading to widespread discussion and media attention.
Journalist Kamran Ali brought the incident to light on social media, questioning whether Mahnoor’s sole fault lay in her marriage to Azhar Mashwani and if Mashwani’s only crime was his association with the PTI.
The Peshawar High Court ordered Mahnoor Azhar’s name removed from the Provincial Control List. Despite this clearance, she was prevented from boarding her flight, and authorities informed her that her name had subsequently been placed on a stop list.
The High Court, led by Justice Shakeel Ahmad, had earlier raised questions regarding the justification for Mahnoor’s initial inclusion on the Provincial Control List, demanding clarity on who was responsible and the reasons behind such an action.
Azhar Mashwani claimed that although immigration records had shown his wife’s name removed from the Passport Control List just last week, military intelligence unexpectedly added it to the stop list. He openly criticized Military Intelligence’s involvement in this civilian issue and voiced his concerns about the potential repercussions on the credibility and functioning of the military’s administrative processes.
