Ayesha Mumtaz, a schoolgirl from Sargodha, has secured a medal for Pakistan at the Asian Junior and School Boxing Championship in Al Ain City, Abu Dhabi. Her strong performance in the quarterfinals earned her a spot in the semi-finals and a guaranteed bronze medal.
Mumtaz defeated Thi Hong Yen Nguyen of Vietnam in her quarterfinal match, showcasing her superior skills and tactics. This victory clinched a bronze medal, making her the second female Pakistani boxer to win a medal at the Asian Boxing Championships.
Competing in the pin weight (46kg) category for schoolgirls, Mumtaz represented Pakistan as the only participant. Her effective left-handed hooks and sharp attacks were key in defeating Nguyen, propelling her into the semi-finals as a formidable competitor.
Hadiya Kamal was the only other Pakistani woman to medal at this championship, earning a bronze in 2022 through a direct semi-final entry.
The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) has expressed pride in Mumtaz’s accomplishment, recognizing the athlete and her support team’s hard work and commitment.
