Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been elected the 22nd Speaker of the National Assembly (NA), with the session presided over by Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. During this session, the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) protested.
The election, conducted via a secret ballot, saw legislators casting their votes individually. Ayaz Sadiq secured 199 votes against Aamir Dogar of the SIC, who received 91 votes.
Upon taking his oath, Sadiq immediately assumes control of the house, prompting Ashraf to relinquish his role. The newly appointed Speaker is set to oversee the Deputy Speaker’s election without delay.
This development follows the nomination of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for the Speaker position by PML-N’s President, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and the nomination of Ghulam Mustafa Shah for Deputy Speaker by Bilawal Bhutto on behalf of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nominated Aamir Dogar for Speaker and Junaid Khan for Deputy Speaker.
