In the eastern Afghan province of Nuristan, an avalanche resulted in at least six fatalities, with 30 individuals reported trapped, according to a provincial official on Monday. The region, along with other parts of Afghanistan, experienced significant snowfall. “Rescue operations are ongoing amidst continuous snowfall, and the death toll could rise,” stated Jamiullah Hashimi, the provincial head of information and culture.
Concurrently, a passenger aircraft initially reported as Indian crashed in the Zibak district of Badakhshan province on Sunday. The Badakhshan Police Command disclosed that the aircraft disappeared from radar the previous night, crashing in the Topkhana area’s rugged terrains, between the districts of Kuran-Munjan and Zibak. Zabihullah Amiri, Badakhshan’s Information and Culture Department head, confirmed the crash’s location and mentioned that an investigative team was dispatched to the crash site.
Contrary to initial reports, a news agency later clarified that the downed aircraft, originating from India, was a charter flight en route to Moscow, potentially carrying six passengers.
