Lahore is currently, staging the Auto Show 2016, as stakeholders and representatives attended a promotion of Pakistan’s potential in the field of mechanical transport
The show opened amidst much fanfare with a wide array of cars with Engineering Development Board Chief Executive Officer Tariq Chaudhry saying that this show was elevating the country’s global image.
Chaudhry pointed out that the automobile industry was a hefty contributor to the national kitty and the government was deeply committed to taking all possible measures to encourage large-scale investments. “I congratulate our local industrialists and engineers who have achieved remarkable success in establishing a sophisticated engineering sector, which is creating tremendous new opportunities for value-added exports.”
PAS 2016 is the sixteenth auto show and organised by the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam).
“It reflects the nation’s pursuit to become the future hub for auto manufacturing, since Pakistan is already the cheapest source in the world for producing tractors.”
Speaking on the occasion, Paapam chairman Mumshad Ali said that the demand for automobiles is expected to rise continuously over the next three to five years.
“Countries of comparable population, such as Indonesia, produce 1.3 million vehicles annually. The challenge for Pakistan is to give confidence to local assemblers and vendors to make immediate investments in capacity expansion.”
