Australia triumphed over Bangladesh by 28 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, during the Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024 stage.
The match, affected by rain, was halted with Australia at 100-2 in 11.2 overs. They exceeded the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) par score by 28 runs as they chased Bangladesh’s target of 141.
David Warner led the scoring for Australia with an unbeaten 53 off 35 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes. Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell also made notable contributions, with 31 and 14 not out, respectively.
Rishad Hossain took both Australian wickets, dismissing Head and captain Mitchell Marsh.
Earlier in the game, after winning the toss and electing to field, Australia contained Bangladesh to 140-8 in 20 overs. Pat Cummins starred with a hat-trick, ending with figures of 3-29 from his four overs. His hat-trick, completed across the 18th and 20th overs, marked the seventh in T20 World Cup history and the second by an Australian.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy were Bangladesh’s top scorers, contributing 41 and 40 runs, respectively.
Adam Zampa also performed well, securing 2-24 in his four-over spell.
This match marked the first Super 8 appearance for both teams in the tournament.
