An anti-terrorism court in Karachi acquitted former SSP Rao Anwar and all suspects, including Naqeebullah Mehsud’s murder on Karachi’s outskirts.
The judge said the prosecution failed to prove its case against the accused. After the acquittal, Rao Anwar told journalists that the “false allegation” against him was proven untrue by the Almighty and judge.
Speaking to Geo TV after the acquittal, Anwar thanked God and said that “fake allegations” against him had been proven wrong.
The former cop went on to say that he would give a detailed response on the accusations against him in “a talk show” soon.
Anwar, elated, promised a thorough media response.
He alleged that 25 persons were wrongfully nominated for the murder of Naseemullah, a wanted terrorist.
He asserted that the murder victim was a “wanted terrorist” with the name Naseemullah, not Naqeebullah, and that 25 persons had been incorrectly named as suspects in the case. Moreover, he was a wanted militant about whom newspaper advertisements were also published.
The former police official responded that he had one year left on his contract and “would like to serve Karachi” when asked if he would like to rejoin the force.
