Pakistani cueists Asjad Iqbal and Awais Munir have progressed to the IBSF Mongolia World Cup Men 2024 quarter-finals, showcasing their skill in the tournament held in Ulaanbaatar.
In Round 16, Iqbal made a remarkable recovery against Chang Yu Kiu of Hong Kong, winning 4-1 after losing the first frame 08-89. He then secured the next four frames with 74-62(62), 71-12, 57-46, and 71(68)-24 scores.
Munir also moved forward with a 4-2 win against Chau Hon Man of Hong Kong. Despite losing the initial frame 44-81, he rebounded to take the second frame 80-08, and, after a setback in the third frame 17-65, he won the subsequent frames 88-42, 85(79)-05, and 66-34.
The quarter-finals are set for tomorrow at 10 a.m. local time. Iqbal will face Gao Yang of China, and Munir will challenge Ali Gharahgozlou of Iran.
Previously, on Sunday, both Pakistani players achieved victories in their third matches, advancing to the Round of 16 without a defeat. Awais triumphed over Siyavosh Mozayani of Iran 3-1 with scores of 9-63, 78-34, 59-50, and 73-13, while Asjad defeated Ali Alobaidli of Qatar with frame scores of 59-36, 26-63, 58-19, and 70-58.
Their undefeated performances in the group stages led them to top their groups and advance to the pre-quarterfinals.
