Saudi Arabia has conferred the King Abdulaziz Medal of Excellent Class on Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, during high-level talks focused on regional security and evolving geopolitical challenges, the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Monday.

According to ISPR, the honour was awarded under a royal decree issued by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. The military’s media wing described the decoration as Saudi Arabia’s highest national honour.

During his official visit to the kingdom, Field Marshal Munir met Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Defence. The meeting covered defence and military cooperation, strategic coordination, and broader regional and global security developments.

ISPR said the discussions reaffirmed the deep-rooted, historic, and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, with both sides emphasising close collaboration on shared security interests.

The statement noted that the King Abdulaziz Medal recognises Field Marshal Munir’s leadership and his role in strengthening defence cooperation, strategic alignment, and institutional linkages between the two countries. It added that the honour also reflects his contributions toward regional peace and stability, including sustained cooperation in counter-terrorism and security efforts.

Saudi leadership, the ISPR said, praised Munir’s professionalism and strategic outlook, highlighting his commitment to advancing bilateral relations. In response, the army chief expressed gratitude to King Salman and the Saudi leadership for the award, calling it a symbol of the enduring bonds between the two nations.

Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security, stability, and prosperity, underscoring Islamabad’s continued support for close defence and strategic cooperation between the longstanding allies.
