Pakistan middle-order batter Asif Ali announced his retirement from international cricket, marking the end of an impactful career with the national team. He shared the news via Instagram, describing representing Pakistan as the “greatest honour” of his life.
“Wearing the Pakistan jersey was my proudest moment. Playing for my country has been the highlight of my career,” Asif wrote in his emotional farewell post. He expressed deep gratitude to his teammates, coaches, fans, and family for their unwavering support through triumphs and challenges.
Asif Ali played 58 T20 internationals and 21 one-day internationals for Pakistan, scoring 959 runs, including three half-centuries. Known for his explosive batting, he made significant contributions during the 2021 T20 World Cup, delivering match-winning performances against New Zealand and Afghanistan, helping Pakistan reach the semi-finals. He was also part of the team that finished as runners-up in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
His final international match was in 2023 against Bangladesh during the Asian Games.
In his announcement, Asif reflected on a deeply personal moment: the tragic loss of his daughter just before the 2019 World Cup. “To my family and friends, who stood by me during moments of joy and the deepest trials, including the loss of my beloved daughter, your strength carried me forward,” he wrote.
