The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is poised to move six Super 4 matches of the 2023 Asia Cup from the initial venue in Colombo to Hambantota due to expected prolonged rainfall in Colombo during the scheduled dates. This adjustment, which includes the eagerly awaited Pakistan-India match on September 10, comes after careful observation of weather predictions indicating potential rain interruptions in Colombo.
The ACC is considering assigning a reserve day specifically for the Pakistan-India match to avoid a repeat of their recent group-stage match, which saw no play in the second innings due to weather conditions. This shift is a response to the concerns previously raised by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the weather issues in Colombo. However, it has attracted criticism for the original choice of venue during the rainy season.
The rescheduled Super 4 matches are:
- Sept 9 – B1 vs B2
- Sept 10 – Pakistan vs India
- Sept 12 – India vs B1
- Sept 14 – Pakistan vs B1
- Sept 15 – India vs B2
- Sept 17 – Final
An official announcement from the ACC is expected shortly.
