The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) made an announcement on Thursday regarding the Asia Cup 2023. The prestigious tournament will occur from August 31st to September 17th and will witness the participation of elite teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal. A total of 13 thrilling One-Day International (ODI) matches will be played during the event. Notably, Nepal’s inclusion in the tournament is important as it marks its inaugural appearance in an Asian event.
A hybrid model will be implemented to ensure a balanced distribution of matches, with four matches scheduled in Pakistan while the remaining nine matches will occur in Sri Lanka. Under this hybrid model, notable fixtures such as Pakistan versus Nepal, Bangladesh versus Afghanistan, Afghanistan versus Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh will likely be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The 2023 edition of the Asia Cup will feature two groups, with two teams from each group advancing to the Super Four stage. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will then compete in the showdown. This tournament holds immense significance for the Asian teams as it will serve as valuable preparation for the upcoming ICC World Cup, which will be held in India.
To ensure the hosting rights of the event were maintained, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed two options under the hybrid model. The first option involved India playing their matches at a neutral venue, while all other matches would be held in Pakistan. The second option suggested that four group stage matches in the first phase be played in Pakistan, with the subsequent phase, including matches featuring the Indian team and the final, taking place at a neutral venue.
Ultimately, the second option of the hybrid model has been accepted. The organizers will soon unveil the complete schedule of the tournament, providing further details regarding the matches and venues.
