The wife of renowned Pakistani artist Mansoor Ahmed Rahi has filed an FIR against her son, alleging he stole paintings valued at over Rs1 billion, an act she claims led to her husband’s demise, according to police on Friday.
Dawn News reported that Mrs Rahi reported the theft to Shalimar police eight months after the incident on Thursday. The police registered a case against the artist’s son and his associates under Section 380 of the PPC.
The FIR details that the couple’s son and six friends visited their home in Sector F-11 in January. He then took his parents to dinner, leaving his friends at the house. Upon returning, Mrs Rahi heard noises from the basement while ascending to an upstairs room. Despite her son dismissing the sounds, she investigated and discovered 70 to 80 of her husband’s paintings removed from their frames and rolled up.
The FIR alleges that her son and his friends subsequently removed the paintings in her presence. Given the paintings’ significant value, the theft profoundly affected Rahi, leading to illness. Despite efforts to retrieve the artworks, they were unsuccessful.
Following Rahi’s death on May 12, Mrs. Rahi, also distressed by the loss, has now sought legal action against her son to recover the stolen paintings.
