Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir visited Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) on Tuesday, where he was updated on the progress of current projects and the latest advancements in defense production.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that during his visit, the army chief was informed about HIT’s technical capabilities, the development of ongoing projects, indigenization efforts, and recent modernization initiatives.
COAS Gen Munir toured various HIT factories, observing the manufacturing, rebuilding, and upgrading of tanks, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), enhanced protection systems, remote weapon systems, and indigenous 155mm artillery gun barrels for the Pakistan Army.
The army chief emphasized the significance of self-sufficiency in defense production and commended HIT for its contributions to achieving this objective. He expressed confidence in the abilities of HIT personnel. He praised their dedication to turning HIT into a modern defense production facility that meets the needs of the Pakistan Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) according to international standards.
Gen Munir noted that HIT is a center for knowledge economy and research and development, essential for attaining self-reliance in defense production and contributing to national exports and the country’s economy.
Upon arrival, the HIT Chairman welcomed the army chief, who then visited various facilities and received briefings on the latest developments in defense production. The COAS’s visit to HIT underscores the importance of modernization and indigenization efforts for the defense industry, which is critical for protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and security.
