Apple will cease selling three iPhone models in 2022, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and the third-generation iPhone SE, across the European Union (EU) by December 28. This decision aligns with new EU regulations mandating a universal charger.
The upcoming EU common charger rule, effective December 28, necessitates discontinuing devices with the proprietary Lightning port, favouring the universal USB Type-C port. Initially launched in Switzerland, sales of these models will stop across all 27 EU countries. Although Switzerland is not an EU member, it participates in the European single market, affecting Apple’s compliance strategy.

As reported by MacRumors, Apple has already removed the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone SE (2022) from its Swiss website, with a note indicating they are “currently not available.” These models, however, remain for sale on various Apple websites within the EU.

Reports indicate that Apple is developing a fourth-generation iPhone SE, potentially featuring a new design, Face ID, and an in-house modem chip. Meanwhile, EU customers looking for new Apple smartphones must opt for the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16, equipped with USB Type-C ports, allowing continued sales post-regulation.
