Bloomberg reported that Apple will launch a revamped, AI-powered Siri with the iOS 26.4 update in Spring 2026. The upgrade, delayed due to technical challenges, promises enhanced contextual awareness and natural language processing for iPhone users.
Apple’s Intelligence suite, announced at WWDC 2024, included plans for a smarter Siri. However, integrating the new AI platform with the existing Siri system caused bugs, forcing Apple to rebuild the assistant from scratch. Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, emphasised the need for “more time to reach our high-quality bar” during WWDC 2025.
The company split Siri into two systems: one for basic tasks like setting timers and another for advanced AI-driven features. Combining these architectures proved challenging, leading to the extended timeline.
The smarter Siri that understands personal context won’t be released until March 2026 🗓️

What to Expect from the New Siri
The upgraded Siri, slated for iOS 26.4, will feature improved natural language understanding and contextual awareness, enabling more intuitive interactions. While specific details remain scarce, Apple hinted at these enhancements during WWDC 2025, promising a launch in the “coming year.” The release could align with the iPhone 17 series debut in September 2026, though this remains speculative.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple’s internal timeline targets Spring 2026, but potential development snags could shift this schedule. The company’s focus on quality underscores its commitment to delivering a polished product, even if it means delaying the original Fall 2024 plan by nearly two years.
Siri’s overhaul is a key part of Apple’s push to compete in the AI-driven tech landscape, where rivals like Google and Amazon have advanced their voice assistants. A smarter Siri could enhance user experiences across iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices, solidifying the company’s position in AI innovation.
