Apple launched a new iPhone tailored for artificial intelligence on Monday, marking a significant shift in its strategy to reinvigorate sales and maintain its technological competitive edge.
The tech giant revealed the iPhone 16, designed specifically to harness Apple Intelligence’s capabilities, at its headquarters in Silicon Valley.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the new models, noting their potential to revolutionize user experiences with AI. Last quarter, the iPhone generated $39 billion, accounting for about 60% of Apple’s revenue, and continues to be integral to accessing services like the App Store and Apple TV.
Apple is emerging from a sales downturn, and many users keep older devices longer. With this release, Apple aims to spark interest. Dan Ives, a Wedbush analyst, highlighted that the iPhone 16 is central to initiating the consumer AI revolution from Cupertino.
Apple Intelligence, announced in June during Apple’s annual developers conference, introduces new software features, including partnerships with AI leaders like OpenAI. Cook underscored the longstanding importance of AI in enhancing user experiences, and Apple Intelligence is set to impact personal computing significantly.

This suite includes AI-driven image editing and translation, among other creative enhancements. However, it stops short of the more radical innovations seen by other tech giants like OpenAI and Google.
Ives anticipates that software developers will soon create applications and services optimized for these generative AI capabilities, potentially boosting iPhone sales. Additionally, Apple plans to update other products like AirPods and Apple Watches to integrate these AI features.
The company also unveiled new Apple Watch and AirPods models, emphasizing its commitment to expanding AI across its product lineup. Avi Greengart, a Techsponential analyst, suggested that by integrating AI, Apple aims to break away from the perception that new releases offer only incremental improvements.
Looking forward, Apple could transform the iPhone experience with a super-powered Siri that operates seamlessly across all apps.
