Apple is working on a significant upgrade for its high-end tablet. According to a new report, the company is developing a vapour chamber cooling system for a future iPad Pro.

This technology is expected to debut in a model slated for 2027. The goal is to better manage heat from the device’s powerful processor. The same report also reveals challenges with another ambitious product. Apple’s rumoured 18-inch foldable iPad is facing development hurdles and delays. A vapour chamber is a liquid-cooling technology that effectively dissipates heat. It helps prevent a device from overheating during demanding tasks.

This technology is already used in the latest iPhone Pro models. It keeps the phone cool during gaming, video editing, and AI operations. For the iPad Pro, this means the powerful M-series chip can run at high performance for longer. It eliminates the need for a fan while reducing performance throttling.

The iPad Pro with the new cooling system is expected in the spring of 2027. It is also anticipated to be powered by Apple’s next-generation M6 chip. This chip will be built on a more advanced 2nm process. This combination of efficient hardware and superior cooling should offer a major leap in performance.

While other tablets have used vapour chambers, Apple is expected to market it as a key premium feature. This will help distinguish the iPad Pro from the more affordable iPad Air. In other news, Apple’s plans for an 18-inch foldable iPad have hit roadblocks. The project is facing issues with the device’s weight and the folding OLED screen.

There are also concerns about a very high price, potentially over $3,000. Because of these challenges, the release has been delayed until at least 2029. Given Apple’s history of cancelling ambitious but problematic projects, the future of this large foldable device remains uncertain.
