US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar offered a pivotal chance to conclude the war in Gaza.
In discussions with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Blinken emphasized, “The death of Sinwar does create an important opportunity to bring the hostages home, to bring the war to an end, and to ensure Israel’s security.”
Blinken also engaged with families of hostages held in Gaza since the conflict ignited by a Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Herzog concurred that Sinwar’s death could shift the conflict’s dynamics, stating, “With the killing of Sinwar and other evolving circumstances, there is a unique opportunity to use all available tools to advance peace and secure the hostages’ return.”
