Annabel Sutherland has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for February 2024, marking her as the fifth Australian to win this accolade, following Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haynes, Tahlia McGrath, and Ashleigh Gardner.
In February, Sutherland excelled with 229 runs and seven wickets in four games, outperforming UAE’s Esha Oza and Kavisha Egodage.
The 22-year-old expressed her delight at receiving her first Player of the Month award, highlighting it as a highlight of a successful season. Sutherland emphasized the significance of performing well against South Africa in a home Test, a challenge she values.
Her performance included a historic double century against South Africa, contributing significantly to Australia’s ODI and Test series victories. Sutherland’s prowess was evident as she took pivotal wickets and scored rapidly on the test, setting a record for the fastest double century in women’s cricket.
At 22, Sutherland became the second youngest to score a double hundred in Test cricket. Her score of 210 was close to breaking the record for the highest score by an Australian in Women’s Test cricket. With a comprehensive contribution in both batting and bowling, she played a key role in Australia’s win by an innings and 284 runs, securing her position as the Player of the Match.
