Angelina Jolie has ended her two-year legal confrontation with the FBI by withdrawing her lawsuit concerning the bureau’s probe into an alleged abuse incident involving her ex-husband, Brad Pitt.
Court documents confirm that on September 25, Jolie filed a motion to dismiss the case “with prejudice,” which bars the lawsuit from being reopened. Jolie and Pitt will bear their respective legal costs, closing this chapter of their legal interactions.
The lawsuit’s roots go back to 2016 when the FBI investigated a reported physical dispute between Pitt, Jolie, and their children aboard a private jet. The investigation started following an anonymous tip that raised concerns about domestic violence.
By November 2016, the FBI had concluded the investigation and decided not to file any charges against Pitt. Shortly after, Jolie initiated divorce proceedings against Pitt.
In her lawsuit filed under a “Jane Doe” pseudonym in April 2022, Jolie sought details about the FBI’s investigation through the Freedom of Information Act, aiming to uncover facts about the alleged incident that purportedly involved her and their minor children as victims and witnesses.
Many speculated that the lawsuit was an effort to obtain potentially compromising information that could influence her ongoing custody dispute with Pitt over their six children, a matter that is still unresolved.
Some insiders believed that filing the lawsuit was part of Jolie’s strategy to gain an advantage in the contentious custody battle. Yet, her recent decision to drop the lawsuit’s impact on their continuing custody issues remains unclear.
“Angelina is likely looking for a morsel of information, something else to use against Brad, to hurt him,” a source told Page Six.
“This is a desperate fishing expedition trying to find something that likely doesn’t exist in FBI notes and make it public.”
