At Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, an Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) sniffer dog was tragically shot after it wandered into a restricted bay area.
According to a Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCCA) spokesperson, efforts by the airside team to secure the dog were unsuccessful, compelling them to take lethal action to mitigate the risk the animal posed to aircraft operations.
The spokesperson explained that the team, following instructions from the control tower, attempted to restrain the dog within the designated aircraft parking area but failed. The situation escalated when the dog headed toward the taxiway and runway, leading to the decision to shoot it to prevent a potential accident.
The spokesperson confirmed that a detailed investigation into the incident is in progress.
Initial reports mistakenly identified the ANF’s trained sniffer dog as a stray, leading to its shooting by an airport marksman. Sources noted that the unfortunate incident occurred near parking bay number 25, just as an Etihad Airways plane was being positioned.
