On Thursday, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) intercepted a large shipment of methamphetamine headed for Belgium, seizing approximately 224 kilograms of the drug at Karachi port. The methamphetamine was ingeniously hidden as soapstones within the roofs and walls of five shipping containers.
The containers originated from Karachi and were en route to Afghanistan, with Belgium listed as the ultimate destination. ANF personnel, during a meticulous inspection, uncovered the narcotics and secured the containers.
Three suspects, including two Afghan nationals, were apprehended in connection with the smuggling attempt. Officials reported that the suspects were arrested as they attempted to flee the scene.
This incident follows a significant April operation by customs officials at the Torkham border crossing, where they confiscated illicit drugs valued at Rs1 billion. During this operation, officials discovered 14 kilograms of methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, and 18 kilograms of heroin hidden in a vehicle’s secret compartments.
The chief collector of Customs highlighted that the narcotics recovered in these operations have a combined street value of approximately Rs1 billion in the international market.
