The world has increasingly become a melting pot of cultures, with intermarriages between citizens from different nations becoming more common.
In a recent example of such cultural intermingling, Claire Stephen, an American freelance journalist, married Anwar Wali, a polo player and poet from Upper Chitral, Pakistan.
Claire first visited Pakistan eight months ago for a stay in the Buni area of Upper Chitral. There, she met Anwar Wali, a renowned local polo player and prominent social figure. After returning to the United States, Claire maintained communication with Anwar, and their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship.
The marriage ceremony was held in Islamabad and attended by Anwar’s friends, relatives, and lawyers. Upon Claire’s arrival, Anwar’s friends and family warmly welcomed the couple.
Following the ceremony, Claire and Anwar travelled to Peshawar. They plan to proceed to Chitral to participate in local customs and continue their wedding festivities. The dowry was set at 30,000 Pakistani Rupees.
Speaking to the media, Claire expressed deep admiration for Anwar’s character, which she cited as a significant reason for her decision to marry him. She also mentioned her work with a local sports magazine in America and noted that her travels around the world never impressed her as much as the culture of Chitral.
