Amazon has reduced its corporate workforce in a significant new round of layoffs. The company has cut approximately 14,000 jobs, according to a new report.
The move is part of a broader company-wide drive to improve efficiency. It follows a trend of job reductions across the tech industry.
According to a Business Insider report, some affected employees were notified by text message. They received two early-morning texts informing them that their positions had been terminated.
The texts advised staff to check their email for official details. A follow-up message directed anyone who hadn’t received an email to contact the helpdesk.

The latest cuts have heavily impacted retail management staff in the United States. This reflects an ongoing effort to reduce headcount in that part of the business. Amazon stated it is providing support to those affected. This includes help finding new roles within the company and severance pay for those who leave.
The layoffs are part of CEO Andy Jassy’s initiative to reduce bureaucracy. The company aims to streamline operations and accelerate innovation. Separate reports have suggested the total number of planned job cuts could be even higher.
