The Ali Zafar Meesha Shafi defamation verdict has been delivered by a Lahore sessions court, bringing a major development in one of Pakistan’s most high-profile legal disputes.
The court ruled in favour of singer Ali Zafar, ordering Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages. Additional Sessions Judge Asif Hayat announced the verdict after years of proceedings.
The court stated that, based on the available evidence, Meesha Shafi failed to substantiate her allegations against Ali Zafar. This ruling affirms Zafar’s claim that the accusations had harmed his reputation.
The case began in 2018 when Meesha Shafi publicly accused Ali Zafar of harassment on social media. The allegations gained widespread attention and became one of Pakistan’s most prominent cases linked to the global #MeToo movement. In response, Ali Zafar filed a defamation suit seeking Rs1 billion in damages.

Over nearly eight years, the court recorded statements from both parties and multiple witnesses. Legal teams conducted detailed cross-examinations, and final arguments continued for months before the verdict was reserved.
The court ultimately awarded Rs5 million in damages, significantly lower than the amount initially sought. Ali Zafar’s counsel, Umar Tariq Gill, stated that the court rejected Meesha Shafi’s claim that her statements were made in the public interest. According to the legal team, the court found the allegations to be unproven.
