Ali Wazir, a member of the National Assembly (MNA) and the leader of the PTM, was released from Karachi’s Central Jail after spending more than two years.
Since December 2020, the leader of the PTM has been imprisoned for allegedly making inflammatory remarks regarding state institutions. He was arrested in Karachi.
In four FIRs lodged at the Boat Basin, Shah Latif Town, and Sohrab Goth police stations in Karachi, he and a few other party leaders were charged with offenses under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
Wazir’s attorney, Qadir Khan, told local news channel Geo News that his client would be released from detention this evening.
According to the police, four cases had been registered against Wazir at various police stations in Karachi. He was charged with multiple crimes, including rioting and sedition.
Wazir’s attorney, Wazir, has been released on bond in three of the four charges and found not guilty in one.
Fourteen cases were filed against the PTM leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, according to his attorney, the Peshawar High Court granted the politician bail in three instances while forbidding his detention in eleven cases.
Mohsin Dawar, a member of Congress, tweeted his delight at Wazir’s release from prison after over 26 months. After being released from prison in Karachi, he uploaded a photo of himself to the Internet.
