Comedian-turned-musician Ali Gul Pir started the new year by launching a new single titled ‘Kaisa Diya’.
The Taroo Maroo singer who sings about issues that plague our society such as VIP culture is back with a satirical song.. This time about the entertainment industry.
The video is likely to have many laughing out loud; Ali’s expressions are hilarious, and the lyrics undeniably catchy. The 28-year-old has provided a mirror for society to self-evaluate in the form of yet another amusing jingle.
In ‘Kaisa Diya’, Ali tackles three prominent subjects, the first of which is a pompous seasonal talk show host.
The singer pokes fun at how “certain” religious personalities take advantage of the holy month of Ramazan and endorse various products or use giveaways in order to boost their own popularity.
“Ever since I did my first song, I’ve been introduced to this culture of celebrity-worshipping and how people are gullible and tend to believe whatever they see on television…The song is about how people in the industry are not what they seem to be, so ‘Kaisa Diya’ takes you on that journey of everything that happens once the cameras have stopped rolling.”
Thesinger of Waderai Ka Beta fame also adds that the title does indeed come from the viral video of the host of a religious talk show leaked on the internet in which audiences saw the latter using coarse and profane language.
“That was a true depiction of a person who pretends to be righteous and when the camera stops rolling, that’s when his true colours come out.” he quipped.
The second portion of the video focuses on the existence of the casting couch and how some people in the entertainment industry try to lure anyone who may be ambitious and naive into a morally gray area by making false promises about future stardom.
The final segment of the video focuses on how local celebrities are obsessed with working across the border and feel like working in Bollywood gives them a stamp of credibility.
