Ali Amin Gandapur on Mohsin Naqvi has sparked fresh debate after the former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister publicly credited the interior minister for making strong efforts to secure Imran Khan’s release.

Speaking to a private news channel, Samaa Tv, Gandapur said Mohsin Naqvi had worked more vigorously than anyone else to resolve the issue. “I have said this before within the party, and now I am saying it on air,” he stated, adding that Naqvi made sustained attempts to ensure Khan’s release.

His remarks come at a time of heightened political tension. A medical report submitted to the Supreme Court confirmed that the PTI founder has been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a serious eye condition. The report noted that Imran Khan, who has been in jail since August 2023, complained of losing significant vision in his right eye.

CRVO is generally associated with older age and cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Following the diagnosis, PTI leaders and family members demanded that Khan be shifted to a hospital for proper treatment.

However, sources said specialist doctors from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and Al-Shifa International Hospital later examined him and expressed satisfaction with his condition, noting improvement in his eyesight.

Gandapur also claimed that Naqvi had spoken in support of Imran Khan, even before the Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir. According to him, “Naqvi is the only person I have seen who can even get the Field Marshal to engage in a conversation.”

He acknowledged that the PTI had previously been upset with Naqvi over his treatment of the party. “Imran was angry with him, but now I acknowledge Naqvi’s role in attempting to resolve the matter,” he said.

At the same time, Gandapur clarified that he currently has no contact with the interior minister and holds no official position to directly discuss the issue.

He also expressed caution regarding the medical reports. Drawing on past experiences, he said doubts arise when family members and senior party leaders are not allowed to meet the PTI founder.

Meanwhile, Gandapur pointed to internal divisions within the PTI, saying the party faces challenges in decision-making. According to him, these internal issues have complicated its response to ongoing developments.

The situation continues to evolve as legal proceedings, medical assessments and political statements shape the broader narrative around Imran Khan’s health and detention.
