The first phase of the local government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) ended after protracting for over three decades.
At five o’clock today, the elections’ first phase is complete in all three districts of the Muzaffarabad Division: Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, and Jhelum Valley.
The voting proceeded uninterrupted until 5 p.m.
During the voting process in AJK, stringent safety precautions have been taken to ensure that law and order are not disrupted in any way.
There are 1,323 polling locations, 418 of which have been designated as “sensitive” and 257 designated as “most sensitive,” meaning that there will be three and five police personnel present, respectively. According to the administration, the standard number of cops assigned to other polling places is two.
There are 900 independent candidates and 575 candidates representing the PTI, 465 candidates representing the PML-N, 545 candidates representing the PPP, 113 candidates representing the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, 67 candidates representing the TLP, and 46 candidates representing the JI.
It is important to point out that elections for the local governments of Poonch and Mirpur, the other two divisions of the state, will take place on the third and eighth days of the following month.
